The General a Class All Its Own

Less than 6% of the Hotels in the United States have the distiction of what many consider is the true

legitimate rating standard of Hotels...the American Automobile Association's 4-Diamond recognition.

The General Palmer Hotel has enjoyed that honor for 33 consecutive years!

No other Hotel in Durango has received the 4-Diamond Award...not even for one year!

That first meal of the day is more commonly known as breakfast.

If you divide this compound word into two parts,

you'll see it's made up of “break” and “fast.” To fast means to go without food.

So “breakfast” means to break the fast you've been observing since

you went to sleep the night before!

The General Palmer satisfies every urge to end that long nights fast.

Across the street from the ordinary.

“Fantastic experience"

5 of 5 stars

This hotel is an exciting step back in time with fantastic comfort and amenities. The decor is amazing with several seating areas within the main lobby.Check in was FAST,we then rode the antique elevator to the 2nd floor and walked down the narrow halls to our room.  Room was furnished the same as the rest of hotel with a turn of the century feel. It was immaculate and everything worked to perfection.  Outside balconies on 2nd and 3rd floors were especially enjoyable to me, they look out on the narrow gauge railway yard.Would stay here again and again.

Another Word From Our Guests

We have been in Durango a couple times before to ride the train, but this was our first time at the General Palmer. Wish we would have thought of this place before. It is outstanding in all regards. History. Décor. Rooms. General ambience. Gracious personnel. We were on the third floor overlooking Main St. and had no issues with street noise. We got a kick out of the elevator as it is as historical as the hotel. Old fashioned where you summon the elevator, open the outer door and then slide the inner door/gate to the side. Very small maybe 3x4 feet. Easiest to just let the Bellman bring your luggage to your room. It has a nice breakfast buffet to get the day going. Really close to the train depot. Out the front door, turn right and it can't be more than 100 feet. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return should our travels find us in Durango again.
